Hakim Jamal was the cousin of black leader Malcolm x.

I adopted it as a pseudonym in 2017.

why? because my music is rooted in, and reflects, the struggle for equal rights among all ethnicities in the world.

I want to make music that matters; that comments upon society in the way that my heroes Stevie wonder, Gil-scott heron, Nina Simone and miles Davis did.  My music is joyful and serious,  but above all human.
