LITTLE UMBRELLAS
This track is from the 'jazz side' of Five Easy Pieces by Hakim Jamal. I first came across the original, on the album Hot Rats by Frank Zappa, around 50 years ago. There is always something new in it each time you listen to it.
I wanted to create the feel of a group of 'lounge lizards,' like the sleazy nightclub band in the Twin Peaks movies, so I've gone for a tremolo heavy, woozy sound which I think fits the atmosphere of the track really well.
The video was created by multilayering cutups of still and moving images, which were then put through filters and keyed out, giving I hope a kind of surreal retro-VHS effect.
